Perfecting your Resume

By Jeffrey Hanger

With the job market in an unstable state, it's no surprise job seekers are searching all routes they can in order to find some kind of income. Thankfully we live in a time where an online job search is just a click away via the many employment websites out there.

There was a time when online job search tools didn't even exist, and even when they transpired they weren't very useful. Today, all the resources you need are at the tip of your fingers.

However, with the widespread use of employment websites comes extreme competition. That being said, the smartest thing you can do to improve your chances is perfect that resume of yours.

An unoriginal, overly simplified resume will get you nowhere. Today's job seekers must differentiate themselves from the other qualified candidates applying for the same job. Employment websites have changed quite a bit. And now companies require more information from you before they release any information about themselves.

This new breed of job search tools is extremely dynamic. They will want you to submit a cover letter, resume and references before they even give you a phone call. So prior to your online job search, make sure you have these documents prepared.

Keep in mind, these companies are probably getting resume submissions all day long, and you don't want to appear just like the rest. And you definitely don't want to submit anything with any errors.

It is beneficial to include a skills and accomplishments section, where you can go into detail about all your achievements you've gained through past education and work experiences. You want to pique the employer's interest; be creative.

So before you start browsing all the job sites out there, take a look at all your documents and references. Edit it, and edit it again. You don't want to give them a reason NOT to call you.
