Growth Of Packaging And Delivery Industries

By Dylan McThomas

Over the last ten years or so, the delivery industry has grown massively in size. This is because more and more businesses are running just in time deliveries and many companies are now shifting a lot of their focus to online selling, delivery requirements have sky-rocketed all over the western world, and this has had a huge effect on the packaging industry.

The amount of packaging now used is many times that of how much was used in the mid 90s. There has been a consistent growth year on year since the revolution of the Internet and even during this current recession, more and more buyers are abandoning the high street and looking for bargains online meaning packaging demand is higher still.

There are many suppliers available, but it does depend upon what you intend to transport as to what you best packaging solution will be. Some suppliers will not insist on minimum order values, while others will need you to order 50 or 100 of each box type as a minimum. If you are a smaller business, delivering a variety of products in small volumes then you will prefer to use a supplier that doesn't limit your minimum order size. It is of course important to minimise your outlay on packaging as it will all reflect in your bottom line.

Many companies offer a printing service on their boxes, i.e. they will print your company's logo or name on the boxes to act a bit of extra advertising not only for your existing customers who will receive the box, but for anyone who comes into contact with it before hand or indeed afterwards and for the rest of that box's life.

Factors that affect the cost of your packaging include what type of box you need i.e. single wall or double wall. Obviously the double walled are slightly more expensive, but are more appropriate for heavier items. You should also ensure that you have adequate packing inside the box to prevent damage during transit. Appropriate bubble wrap or loose fill will do the job nicely.
