How Kindness Can Change Your Life and The World

By Jenn Lawlor

Many people like to commit random acts of kindness, to help others with no expectation of a reciprocal action. These people believe that their ""reward"" is the feeling that comes with knowing they have done something nice for another person. It enriches their own lives and makes them better people despite the fact that no one has given them anything material in return. Inspirational speaker Michael J. Chase believes that living in a kind manner, treating oneself and other people and the Earth in a positive way, will improve one's health, relationships, and overall life.

If you have not heard of Michael J. Chase you are in for a real treat. He admits that his life and his personal world were less than kind, in fact they were hard and harsh. After some difficult times, trials, and real soul searching, Mr. Chase literally stumbled on something one day that did change his life. Later it was also possible for him to teach this to others. He wrote a book that helps the reader to discover his own philosophy about being kind and showing kindness.

The book, called "Am I Being Kind," guides readers and has them question their actions. Readers will learn more about themselves than they ever dreamed. They will discover that the concept of being kind involves far more than simply committing nice actions and being polite to other people. However, these acts do play a role in the overall concept of kindness. For instance, readers will find much joy in performing small acts of kindness for others, from paying for a stranger's meal to holding a door open for the person walking in behind them.

It's so easy to be kind if you just think about it as you go about your day. It won't take anything from your wallet, but it certainly pays in at least a moment or tow of happiness for everyone involved. When you do something kind, hopefully it encourages that person to do the same; and it continues from one person to the next and the next and the next. The result? A better outlook, a renewed sense of the good in others, a desire to be kind and experience the positive feelings for you and others. Don't just read about it here though, try it for yourself and see how your attitude and mood changes; it's hard to be negative or depressed after a simple act of kindness.

Even if you're depressed and feel like you have nothing to give to others, you should realize that this is not true. The next time you have that negative attitude, turn it around by doing something kind for someone else. Share positive feelings, and in turn you will feel more positive about yourself and your life, and so will those around you. Everyone benefits when people are kind.
