Primary Duties Of A Funeral Director

By Anton Cruise

The main task of a funeral director is to supervise everything from the pre burial or pre cremation rituals.

The important tasks of a funeral director involve shifting the body to a mortuary, making the body ready for the funeral ceremony, making arrangements for the services where friends and family will remember and pay their last respects to the departed, and performing the final procedures on the body.

These responsibilities cover different types of jobs, including arrangement of hearse for carrying the body, deliberation on the venue and timings for memorial service and also sending obituaries in the electronic media as well as the newspapers. In addition, the funeral directors also have to make sure that the flowers and decorations are in place. Besides this, they have to make the body ready for the ceremony by bathing and embalming it and arrange conveyance for the relatives gathering for the service.

A funeral director has a lot of responsibilities other than the ones mentioned above, including performing the paperwork formalities as required. He helps in obtaining a proper death certificate for the deceased. He also has to handle other tasks like helping the family with getting the insurance money and to take benefit of seniors' burial benefits. He also takes care of problems related to annuities and transfer of pension of the deceased to the rightful beneficiary and aids the family to estimate a budget for the ceremony.

He also has to coordinate with a number of experts to perform his tasks in an efficient and systematic way. He should be able to interact with physicians, florists, coffin makers and pastors equally well.

Last but not the least, it is essential for funeral directors to be able to provide some comfort to the grieving family on a personal level, so as to help them tide over the loss of a near and dear one. Though it is a crucial aspect of the job, some funeral directors usually consider it a peripheral responsibility.
