Browsing For A Terrific Movie? Check Out These Wonderful Movie Assessments

By Annmarie Henry

It is a fantastic time to be a motion picture enthusiast. For numerous years the only way to see a latest motion picture was to go to the theater. After that the video stores came out but there you had to go over there and try to find your movie, it was frequently out of stock and if you didn't get it back on time you had to pay a late fee. Now you can get films by mail but you still have to wait.

Far and Away - A scrappy Irish tenant farmer hooks up, in doubtful style, with the comparably lively daughter of a affluent landowner, and together they travel to America to try to find their final fate in the'93 Oklahoma land rush. Outstanding platform for Tom and Nicole, who are both attractive and involving; the trouble is a extreme dearth of good dialogue to fill the gaps between fight scenes. Cast includes Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Thomas Gibson, Robert Prosky, Barbara Babcock, Cohn Meaney, and Rance Howard. (140 minutes,'92)

Rhapsody in Blue - Hollywood biography of George Gershwin is largely fiction, although comes off better than most other composer biographies, seizing Gershwin's exhilaration for his work, and some of his central conflicts. Cast includes Robert Aida, Joan Leslie, Alexis Smith, Oscar Levant, Charles Coburn, Hazel Scott, and Al Jolson. (139 minutes,'45)

Mysterious Lady - An Austrian armed forces officer (Nagel) falls in love with Garbo, clueless that she is a Russian agent. Another contrived plot made serviceable by Garbo herself. Cast includes Greta Garbo, Conrad Nagel, Gustav von Seyffertitz, Albert Pollet, and Edward Connelly. (96 minutes,'28)

The In Laws - Everyone can relate to this uncomfortable situation. The in laws are coming and you just have to endure. Do not try this at home! Unrated version runs 93. Cast includes Peter Falk, Alan Arkin, Richard Libertini, and Nancy Dussault. (103 minutes,'64)

Believe in Me - Donovan moves to a tiny Oklahoma town in'64 to accept a teaching job, although when he arrives he learns he has been assigned to coach the girls basketball team. What's more, the girls have no self respect and little assistance from the school. Genuine heartland account transcends above its familiar underdog formula. Donovan and Mathis as his supportive spouse are first rate. Cast includes Jeffrey Donovan, Samantha Mathis, Bruce Dem, Bob Gunton, Heather Matarazzo, Alicia Lagano, and Chris Ellis. (108 minutes, 2007)

The Indian in the Cupboard - A youngster (Scardino) receives an ancient chest as a birthday gift, and discovers that when he sets a toy Indian inside and turns the key, the Indian comes to life. Then he sees that the Indian is not a toy, but a actual individual. Problems follow, particularly while his best buddy summons to life a toy cowboy. Cast includes Hal Scardino, Lindsay Crouse, Richard Jenkins, Rishi Bhat, and Nestor Serrano. (96 minutes,'95)
