Common Mistakes of New Affiliate Marketers

By Jared Smith

One of the best ways to make money online is through Affiliate Marketing. Affiliate Marketing allows anyone with access to a computer to make an impressive amount of extra income. Unfortunately almost 95% of new affiliate marketers end up failing. The reason most fail is because they read one or two books or articles about the subject and think they can just copy what they read and watch the cash roll in. This leads to many mistakes that end up costing the affiliate money. Here are several mistakes that affiliates make.

#1) Copying - There is a flood of products and programs that claim they can make people thousands of dollars a month just by copying exactly what they show you. While that might sound good the problem with that is every person that buys that product or program is going to try the exact same thing promoting the exact same product, which will drive competition through the roof and decrease your chance of making a profit. The one way to avoid this is to copy their methods, but don't use the same product they are using. Find a different product that is shown to make money but doesn't have as many people trying to push the product the same way.

#2) PPC - Using PPC to promote products can be profitable, but you have to be cautious about which keywords you use in your campaigns. You've seen the ads on the right side of the first page of google. What you don't see is that those ads are paying around $3-$5 per click. While those people can afford to spend that much on clicks, most new affiliates can't afford wasting a lot of money for a hand full of clicks. Instead of hundreds of keywords with tons of competition chose a few longer, more targeted keywords that will attract more specific people. If you are promoting a weight loss product instead of using weight loss product as one of your keywords, use "effective weight loss system". You might want to use quotes around your keywords otherwise it will attract random clicks.

#3) Free Traffic - Although paid forms of advertising are very effective, there are several ways to get free traffic through your promotion efforts. One major source is through social networking sites. MySpace, Facebook, or blogs can generate huge amounts of traffic and potentially earn an affiliate hundreds of dollars. Other methods include classified ads. You can post classified ads in local newspapers and in classified ad company's online. One effective but lost form of advertising is fliers. Simple fliers in windshields and posted on public bulletin boards can attract many potential customers.

#4) Commitment - The biggest mistake that beginner affiliate marketers make is not staying committed to their goals. They try one or two methods and when those don't work they simply quit. Affiliate marketing is about perseverance. If you make a mistake you should try to learn something from it and not make that mistake again. If you quit after one or two mistakes then you are abandoning an opportunity to life the life you always dreamed of. Thousands of affiliate marketers are making hundreds of thousands in profit a year through affiliate marketing.
