Show Missouri at Fairs and Festivals

By Rick Amorey

People in Missouri are famous for being skeptical about things; they are not people to be taken in by luscious words. One can try to convince them about how something is worthwhile, but without actual proof that it indeed is, it is a lost cause. The State's motto, as it happens, is "Show Me."

The people of Missouri are more in tune with the tangible things, rather than the ideal. I'm not saying Missourians aren't spiritual or religious; them being skeptical applies only to the everyday matters, not the spiritual. So, naturally, they involve themselves in crafted works of different levels.

If you're from Missouri, chances are you have an inkling for making crafted works, and this is a good thing. Go for the intricate designs on cloth or woven or carved objects, as this will catch the eye of people around it. And it is vital that the crafted item is soothing to the touch; only then will the piece be connected to Missouri's preference for tangible things.

Once you have gleaned enough skill at your craft, whatever you choose to do, it is time to let the world know of your prowess. It's no good when just your family and friends know about it, but as our State motto goes, show me! And by that, I mean the entirety of the State.

What do you do, then? At the many craft fairs and festivals held annually around Missouri, your crafts would be welcome. It's just a matter of a simple online search to find the schedules of these events so you know when and where to go. It is also advisable to contact the organizers beforehand, to know about booth packages and prices. You'll earn a bit, if you're lucky, but even if you don't, you'll receive priceless critique and praise for your pieces.
